Steven Burns, D.V.M.

Dr. Burns was born and raised outside Akron, Ohio and now lives in Farmington Hills with his wife Marge and their four children Michael, Edward, Thomas and Anna and two long hair Dachshunds, Jaeger and Red.  He attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio where he received a B.S. in both Biology and Environmental Sciences and worked as a zookeeper at the Toledo Zoo and researched Humpback Whales in Cape Anne Massachusetts.  He attended the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo pursuing a Masters degree in Physiology doing research on captive rhinos and wild horses in Nevada.  Dr. Burns attended The Ohio State University’s Veterinary College from 1992 to 1996 and has worked in Southeastern Michigan since graduation.  He has worked with the Detroit Zoo as a Relief Veterinarian and with the State of Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources handling wildlife situations.  Dr. Burns is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA) and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).  Dr. Burns has been the owner of the Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital since 2001, and he has been an active member of the Walled Lake DDA helping start the Farmers Market and Pet Awareness Day.  He has a special interest in aquatic medicine since working as an Aquarium keeper at the Toledo Zoo.  He likes spending time with his family, camping, gardening and fishing.

Sarah Middleton, D.V.M.

Dr. Sarah Middleton joined our team in May 2008.  She graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.  She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology.  She and her husband Josh recently moved from the west side of Michigan and just purchased their first house on 5 acres.  She has one dog, Augustus and two cats, Addison and Muppett.  She really enjoys the personal relationships of general practice.  Her professional interests also include internal medicine, rehabilitation and soft tissue surgery.  She is a member of Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA), Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).  In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities, watching college sports and photography.  She looks forward to establishing a long relationship with our practice.

Shannon Mobey, Practice Manager/Hospital Administrator

Shannon has been with Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital since 2002.  She and her husband Brett and two children Allison and Thomas reside in Milford.  She is a graduate of Michigan State University.  She is currently a member of the Michigan Association of Veterinary Practice Managers (MAVPM), American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN).  Shannon has been active with the Walled Lake DDA in implementing a continuing Pet Awareness Day.  She also has a dog, Buckley and a cat, Lily.  She has truly enjoyed the years she has been with Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital and especially the clients that she has had the privilege of working with and looks forward to working with more in the future.  Most of all she enjoys working with such a fantastic team that shares the same love and passion for animals.

Elizabeth McLeod, L.V.T./Head Technician

Liz graduated with honors from the Macomb Community College Veterinary Technician program in 2002, and attended Michigan State University with a major in Animal Science.  She joined the WLVH team in 2006.  Liz is a member of National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), Michigan Association of Veterinary Technicians (MAVT), Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (SVBT), Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN) and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).  She has a special interest in canine behavior and training, has taught dog training classes for several years and is a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.  Liz competes in dog shows and obedience and rally trial with her 2 pointers, “Stuart” and “Lenny” and also owns a Persian cat, “Dwight”.

Kathi Jones, Veterinary Assistant

Kathi has enjoyed working at Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital since 1989.  She has four adult sons and two grandsons.  She also has two dogs, two cats and a horse.  In her off time she likes to trail ride her horse, kayak, and scuba dive.

Sarah Schaap, Receptionist

Sarah has been with Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital since September 2007 and loves what she does.  Helping animals is something she has done since she was a child.  She is a wife and mother of two wonderful children, and her family includes two dogs, two cats and a hamster.  Sarah finds the clients in our office so pleasant to work with and of course she loves seeing all the different animals that come through our door.  She would like to thank you for letting her be a part of taking care of your pet.

Kari Weinsheimer, Receptionist

Kari has worked at our front desk since September 2007.  She is a long time Walled Lake resident and is now raising her family here.  She is married and has two very athletically talented boys that keep her very busy.  She has a dog, Duncan and two cats, Riley and Fudge.
