Steven Burns, D.V.M.

Dr. Burns was born and raised outside Akron, Ohio and now lives in Indian Village in Detroit with his wife Marge and their four children Michael, Edward, Thomas and Anna.  His family’s collection of pets includes a gecko, a mouse and numerous fish and a beagle named Juno.   He attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio where he received a B.S. in both Biology and Environmental Sciences and worked as a zookeeper at the Toledo Zoo and researched Humpback Whales in Cape Anne Massachusetts.  He attended the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo pursuing a Masters degree in Physiology doing research on captive rhinos and wild horses in Nevada.  Dr. Burns attended The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine from 1992 to 1996 and has worked in Southeastern Michigan since graduation.  He has worked with the Detroit Zoo as a Relief Veterinarian and with the State of Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources handling wildlife situations.  Dr. Burns is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA).  Dr. Burns has been the owner of the Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital since 2001.

Sarah Middleton, D.V.M.

Dr. Middleton joined our team in May 2008.  She graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from 2001.  She and her husband Josh have 2 young children, a cat and a Vizsla. Her professional interests include internal medicine, rehabilitation and hospice care.  In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities, watching college sports and photography.  She is an active member of the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA), The Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Jenna Bartow - Practice Manager

Jenna graduated from Western Michigan University in 2018 and joined the team at Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital in June 2019. Jenna is an active member of the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association and is passionate about client and staff education and development. She lives in Wolverine Lake with her partner, Matt, their dog, Alaska, and their cats, Honey and Olive. In her free time she enjoys reading, painting, knitting and spending time outdoors in a kayak or on a long walk with her dog.

Rachel L.V.T. -Lead Licensed Veterinary Technician

Rachel graduated from the veterinary technician program at Baker College of Flint in June 2016. Upon graduating she spent her first year as a licensed tech in an emergency hospital. Rachel joined our team in August 2017. Her interests are surgery, anesthesia, and client communication. She has a dog, Lady, and two guinea pigs, Pork Chop and Pumbaa. In her free time she enjoys playing board games, attending concerts, reading, and crocheting.

Kari – Lead Client Care Representative

Kari has worked our front desk since September of 2007.  She is a long time Walled Lake resident and is now raising her own family here.  She is married and has two athletically talented  boys.  She has  4 cats; Riley, Shadow, Fudge and B, that are all rescues.  She enjoys going to Tigers baseball games, going to the movies and working in the yard in her spare time.

James L.V.T.  - Licensed Veterinary Technician -

James graduated from the Wayne County Community College veterinary technician program in 2009 earning an associate degree of applied science.  He joined the W.L.V.H. team in 2009 and is currently the lead technician.  James is a member of Michigan Association of Veterinary Technicians (MAVT), North American Veterinary Technician Association (NAVTA) and Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN).  He currently lives in Clarkston with his wife Emily and three children.  James has two dogs Lenny and Josie.  When he is not at work he enjoys spending time with his family.  He also likes to hike, go camping and hunting in his free time.

Kathi – Veterinary Assistant

Kathi has worked as a veterinary assistant at W.L.V.H. for over 25 years.  She has four grown sons and many grandchildren.  She owns a dog, three cats, two goats and two horses.  In her spare time Kathi enjoys spending time with her family, scuba diving, boating, trail riding and showing her horses.
